An ancient farmhouse in the Tuscan countryside
today a charming boutique hotel with a restaurant in San Giuliano Terme, Pisa
The common areas and rooms of Locanda Sant'Agata are housed within what was once an ancient Tuscan farmhouse at the beginning of the 20th century.
As with many other rural houses in Tuscany, the facade of the estate still bears the plaque indicating the name of the owner, the colony, and the date of construction, 1919. During World War II, following racial laws and violent anti-Semitic propaganda, all Jewish families were forced to flee to avoid deportation. In the autumn of 1938, the former owner of the farmhouse succumbed to the pressures of a large Genoese shipowner, who took ownership of the entire estate. The lack of interest in rural life and the ancient and noble crafts associated with its management affected the fate of the farmhouse, which remained in a state of total abandonment for many years.
In 2010, the Micheletti family fell in love with this abandoned farmhouse and decided to invest money, work, and passion into this small paradise nestled in the green of San Giuliano Terme. The concept of hospitality and a farm-to-table restaurant was implemented; a careful restoration brought unique and modern environments to life while respecting the original structure. Some details still today tell the story of the past.
